Night mode is a new features with the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro camera systems, it is an automatic setting which takes advantage of the new wide-angle camera that's in the ‌iPhone 11‌ and 11Pro models to let more light in and allow for brighter photos when the light is low.

How to use Night mode on iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro

  1. With the Camera app open, look for the moon icon in the top left corner (top right in landscape orientation)
  2. If it’s grayed out, it’s available to use, but not auto-enabled
  3. If it’s yellow, Night mode is auto-enabled
  4. Tap the moon icon to manually adjust the exposure time
  5. Hold your iPhone as still as possible during the Night mode shot (the moon icon will include how long the exposure will be for each shot, a countdown will appear just above the shutter button)

If you have the iPhone 11, you’ll notice that Night mode only triggers when using the standard (1x / 26mm) lens, while if you have the iPhone 11 Pro, you can use it with the standard and the telephoto lens.

iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro models turn on Night Mode automatically when the camera detects low-light situations. A crescent moon icon at the top of the display turns yellow when the feature is active.
